Scientific Name : Litchi chinensis Family : Sapindaceae Introduction Litchi is one of the important sub-tropical fruit crops of Nepal after mango ,banana and guava. It is delicious juicy fruit famous for excellent quality ,pleasant flavor and juicy pulp (aril)with attractive red color. Varieties: Desi, Early vedana Mujfarpur Shahi Purbi Red large Rose cented Kaswa seedless Late Kalkatiya Ha-Kip ( it is the best varieties) Planting season : July –September Planting distance: 1m x1m x 1m pit should be dug and the pit should be filled with compost before planting Distance 1o x1o M depend upon variety Propagation: Propagation should be done mainly by seed, air layering Intercropping: Leguminous crop, papaya, cauliflower, cabbage, radish etc. Training and pruning: Training of young plant is done to establish a good framework .Pruning is used to remove the dead or disease and damage part.
