Unsaturated flow and capillary action PPT or slides

This presentation related to soil physics and classification subject in bachelor in agriculture science . The topic of unsaturated flow and capillary action .

Introduction

Unsaturated flow refers to the movement of water within the spaces of a porous material due to the forces of adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension Capillary action is one of the forces that drives unsaturated flow. Capillary action is the ability of a liquid to flow in narrow spaces without the assistance of, or in opposition to, external forces like gravity. It occurs due to the combination of adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension forces. The unsaturated zone of soil is also called as vadose zone, which lies between water table and soil surface Water movement is slow in unsaturated flow in compare to saturated flow Unsaturated flow is important to determine the rate of movement of water in term aquifer recharge, contaminant transport and dispersal in soils .
